As Business Insider points out, Philadelphia was recently ranked 8th on the Top 10 cities with fastest wage growth. These figures were determined by PayScale, which says that at the end of Q1 2012, Philadelphia wages were up 2% over the previous year, and also provides the below chart showing YOY changes in pay for the Philadelphia Metro Area.

I'm really looking forward to this year's American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) convention, which will be held at the Philadelphia Convention Center November 16 - 18. I'll be hosting a full day of mini-workshops and one-on-one Q & A on Saturday, November 17th. We'll talk about resume writing, job searching, interviewing, and more, with a focus on challenges and opportunities unique to teaching languages. It shaping up to be an exciting event! If you're interested in registering or finding out more you can check out the ACTFL website.
Shannon Dauphin wrote an article for Bankrate.com's affiliate, Stretcher.com on "5 Mistakes That Can Sabotage Your Career (And, How To Remedy Them)", and she included a few of my tips! Some of the things I discussed were how to protect your reputation, strategic career planning, and serious issues such as termination.
With the end of the school year and summer in the air, there's a lot of talk about where college grads can look for work. I have lots of ideas!
I was recently quoted in Lee Miller's article for the New Jersey Star Ledger / NJ.com talking about jobs in the hospitality arena, which is picking up hiring in anticipation of continued growth, but there are actually many possibilities! The post-college job you're seeking doesn't need to be your forever career choice, but it does make sense to seek out employment in a field you're interested in growing in. As I've previously mentioned, certain well-paying career paths are still rapidly growing - veterinarians, biomedical engineers, medical scientists, physical therapists, audiologists, dental hygienists, and diagnostic medical sonographers are just some of the professions recognized by the BLS among the fastest growing jobs. This week's issue of Bloomberg Businessweek features a story on people returning to work after long-term unemployment (7+ months). With the disappointing jobs report from this past week, it's especially nice to see an article about people going back to work.
